If you have an auction site business or periodically buy products or services on Ebay, chances are you may come into contact with an auction site scam. Today, thousands of people each year are scammed out of their hard earned money or products by unscrupulous individuals. Here are some ways to avoid auction site scams.

One of the most common auction site scam is the Ebay or Paypal phishing email. This email is a spoof email that looks identical to Ebay’s or Pay pals email, however it asks you for your password or financial information. Never give out any personal or financial information or click on any links that are sent to you via email. These are usually scams. If you do receive an email that looks legitimate close your browser, open up a new browser and visit the site in question.

Another common scam is when a person offers to buy a product for more money that is requested. Usually the person has a few conditions such as they must purchase it off Ebay or only accept Western Union. Many people become greedy and fall for this scam. Unfortunately, once you go off Ebay to complete a sale, you have very little recourse. Try not to do business with Western Union due to the fact that fraud is rampant and that once a person receives your payment, there is no way to get your money back.
